Ode to Catapuss

Sad to say, Catapuss passed away August 10th, 2010 after a brief bout with abdominal cancer. Catapuss came to live with us 7 years ago after eating her previous owner's diamond earring. She was a very vocal and loving siamese cat that could tell time very well. She always knew when it was time to get up and when it was time to go to bed. She slept with us at night and had the ability to teleport herself into your lap or arms whenever she thought you weren't looking. Just when you thought you had told her no, not now, she was in your lap purring and you would have no memory of her getting there. She loved to sit on my shoulder, hug my neck, and nibble my ears. She was there when I came home and when I left to go to work. She talked constantly to be sure you knew she was there and always had an opinion. She was an author in her own right and even contributed to the "Cat Diaries". She always sat by me when I was sick and the sicker I was, the louder she purred. She was the best doctor I ever had so when I bought my hospital, I named it after her because she was such a caring person.

She was one of my best friends and I will miss her deeply.

To honor her, one of our staff members wrote this:

A letter to my Mommy from Catapuss

One day seven years ago I came into your loving arms. You gave me a place to call home, and wouldn't think of trading me in on a diamond ear ring, because the love and bond that we shared was far more valuable. Also, they might say diamonds are a girl's best friend, but we all know that I was far better than any old pair of diamond ear rings. I mean what diamond could ever replace the jewel that I really was?

I will miss our talks, the books we read, the flowers we planted. I was always there to make sure everyone was up and starting their day on time (because we all know who the boss really was). I will miss putting you to bed at night and making sure you were tucked in tightly.

I must leave you now though, but remember me. I will always be with you, lay me to rest with the roses we planted, so every time you feel the summer breeze, and smell the roses you will always think of me, your precious jewel.
