Twice a Year for Life campaign: Because of the faster aging process of our pets, we stress the importance of semi-annual physical exams. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems.
We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best. Below is a list of some of our services. If you don't see the service you are looking for, please contact us.
Emergency Care: We provide limited after-hours emergency services for our clients-of-record. Please call our main telephone number, (330) 332-1880, and simply leave your name, phone number along with a brief message with our answering service. Our doctor-on-call will promptly call you back to help you determine if immediate professional care is required. Non-clients are provided the name/phone number of an available emergency veterinary hospital.
Emergency Hospital/Care Referral List: Girard Animal Emergency Center - (330) 530-8387 Stark County Veterinary Emergency Clinic - (330) 452-5116 or (330) 257-0006 Preventative care: Our doctors perform annual and semi-annual exams checking the health of your pet. We follow the AVMA, AAHA, and AAFP recommendations on vaccines to make sure your pet is properly vaccinated. We also recommend annual heartworm tests for dogs and feline aids/leukemia/heartworm tests for all outdoor cats. Annual deworming and treatment for fleas, ticks and mites is also available for your pets. The annual (or semi-annual) visit should include the exam, vaccines, heartworm tests for dogs, and the combo test for outdoor cats, fecal exam for intestinal parasites, urinalysis and blood tests to test organ function. We recommend all dogs be on heartworm prevention year round and all cats to be on flea and heartworm prevention from early Spring to early Winter. The CDC (Center for Disease Control) recommends all outside pets be dewormed every 3 - 4 months.
Semi-annual exams: (exams every 6 months) are recommended to help doctors keep your pet healthy. They also allow clients to plan their pet's health care needs by spreading it out over several months instead of all at once.
Diagnostic Services: Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pet's complete health care needs. We have the ability to perform complete blood cell counts (CBC), Chemistry profiles (to check organ functions), Coagulation profiles, Electrolytes, Blood Glucose curves, Thyroid tests, Pancreatitis tests, Parvo virus tests, Fecal tests, Urinalysis, Ultrasound exams, Radiographs (X-rays), ECG, and surgical services.
Therapeutic Services: We have the ability to provide a variety of therapeutic services from out-patient services to in-patient services. All of our patients are provided with their own doctor and nurse to ensure complete care.
Specialist Services
Cardiology Services: We can perform ECGs as well as Blood Pressures, and send these off to a board certified cardiology specialist (same as a human cardiologist) for analysis. We also have the ability to bring in a board certified cardiologist to the clinic to perform complete cardiac work-ups.
Orthopedic and Advanced Surgical Services: We have a board certified surgeon that comes into the clinic to perform all our orthopedic surgeries or advanced surgery cases that we would normally refer out to a referral center.
Internal medicine, Oncology, Ophthalmology and neurology consults: We offer in-hospital referrals to several referral centers in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Ohio State Veterinary College that have specialists on staff to help us with the diagnosis along with treatment of more complicated cases.
General Surgical Services: Our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures.Dr. Brooks, Dr. Boyce and Dr. Daniel both perform routine spays, neuters, growth and tumor removals, abdominal exploratory surgeries, masectomies, urinary bladder surgery, and more. Dr. David Smith comes in to perform ear trims as needed for our established clients.
Anesthesia: We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. Using the most modern equipment, the patient's vital signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures.
Radiology Services: Our on-site X-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders. We are able to perform routine ultrasounds and limited endoscopic procedures. Ultrasounds to determine viability of puppies and kittens are available along with an ultrasound picture.
Electrocardiography Services: We provide ECG services on-site as well as consultations with cardiology specialists. Dentistry: Using our new and modern equipment, our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, dental X-rays, tooth extractions and minor oral surgery.
Laboratory: Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis and parasite testing. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations. Permanent identification: We offer microchip identification.
Pharmacy: We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets. Prescriptions can be filled by phone, and either picked up at our hospital or mailed. Prescriptions to be mailed must be paid for in advance. Shipping charges will vary. We want to keep your business with us in Salem, Ohio so we work hard to keep our pharmaceutical fees reasonable.
Individualized Flea Control Programs: We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas in your house, in your yard and on your pet.
Dietary Counseling: We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage. This includes dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance.
Behavioral Counseling: We can provide advice regarding the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression. We also have trainers and behavior counseling experts to refer you to for further help.
Boarding: We do not provide boarding services, however we do have facilities we recommend. Please call our business number for information on these facilities. We will however, provide boarding for our clients that have special needs pets such as diabetics.
Bathing: We do not offer bathing or grooming services, however, we do have facilities that we recommend. We will provide therapeutic bathing services and close clipping/shavingas ordered by the veterinarian. Please call for additional information.
Educational Services: Hospital Facility Tours, Gradeschool, Middleschool, Highschool and Tradeschool Educational Speaking Programs, limited student externships for high school and college students. We are not accepting volunteers at this time, but will gladly consider anyone who wants to observe or shadow our staff at work.
